Too Many Questions. A pile of colorful paper notes with question marks on them. Close up.

Ally sent me a meme that said that Trump is asking for term limits. She suggested that our opinion on term limits be the question of the week.

I disagree, I don’t know anybody on the right that doesn’t want term limits. How long have some of those swamp creatures been in office?

Senator Sanders has been in public office his entire life. He’s become rich as a “public servant” with multiple million-plus dollar homes.

Term limits are just a good idea.

The Lead

My friend has children. His firearms are locked in expensive safes. He doesn’t ever leave a firearm where a child or stranger could easily access it.

While my children were younger, I kept my firearms under lock and key. If my gun wasn’t on me, it was locked up.

Today I have multiple display cabinets, like my Uncle Alan had when I was a kid. I have display cases and display racks. And of course I still have my safes.

The Question

What criteria do you use when deciding how to store your firearms and ammunition?

  1. most of mine are in a safe, mainly ones I don’t shoot often. and some are NFA items I don’t want stolen, thus under lock and key(none of that electronic lock shiite)
I have multiple that are accessible because we don’t have “children” in our home. IF the wifes grankids come over they get put away..
best place for a defensive firearm is on me, all the time. full size 1911 with 10 round mag and 2 spare 10 rounders.
this “lock up your guns because children” is another way liberals chipped away firearms rights. EDUCATION is all you need to do to be safe.
growing up I knew where every firearm was in the house, loaded or unloaded. none of my friends did because we didn’t tell them and didn’t leave them alone in the house. locking up your defensive firearm when home is gonna get you killed. plus hiding stuff from your kids is gonna make them search for it.. EDUCATE kids on firearms safety ..do you lock up fire extinguishers ? kitchen knives? scissors ? cordless drill and bits? hammers?? Firearms are the ONLY tool demonized by cowards who want We the People unarmed… rant over

  2. #1 always security –
For storage of handguns and ammunition I use surplus GSA government class 5 document containers – I.E. file-safes, with a high security combonation lock (http://usa-amss.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/class5-hero.jpg) – 500+ pounds empty.
For long guns I use an old jewlers safe – 3/8″ solid steel all around and a yale safe combo lock – 900+ pounds empty.
The safes are locked at all times I am not actively in them.
The gun room also has a monitored alarm system that is part of a whole house monitored system
    2) humidity control – I use indicating “Vibrant Life Mini Crystal Unscented Cat Litter” silica-gel crystals liberally in the bottom of the drawers to absorb moisture (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Vibrant-Life-Mini-Crystal-Unscented-Cat-Litter-8-lb/221047623 – and Amazon) – when it indicates moisture, vacuum it out, and reapply.
    3) tempature control – the safes are housed in a heated/cooled part of the house at normal living tempatures & humidity.
    4) ease of access – not much to spinning a dial and opening a drawer – (don’t for get to relock after your done).
    5) I always carry, even at home, because bad things happen suddenly, and the bad guys are NOT going to wait while you go and open the safe to get your gun. – not to mention the rattlesnakes, coyotes, and other assorted critters here.

  3. What criteria do I use?
Who has access, who is likely to have access.
    .
The overwhelming majority of the time, it is only two adults, both with extensive firearms safety training. So, the level of security is almost non-existent. We do not leave loaded guns out on the kitchen counters unattended, but they are not locked up either.
    .
When neighbors or friends are over, the guns get a bit more coverage. About the only time they are locked up is when we are on a trip, and there is a possibility the neighbors will bring their kids into the house to help water the plants, or feed the cat. I cannot take the risk of them discovering this cool new thing.
