The Sartwell Cabin
One of the three cabins, around which the fort was constructed, was Ensign Obediah Sartwell. Standing at the northwest corner of the fort, it was the home to Ensign Sartwell, his wife, and their fourteen children.
Ensign Sartwell was away for months at a time, hunting for the fort, as well as performing military duties.
During his time away, Mrs. Sartwell raised the children and cooked for the members of the Fort.
Today, the cabin is filled with artifacts from the Sartwell’s time. As a living museum, interpreters will live in the cabin for up to a week.
They cook over the open hearth, bake bread in the beehive oven, feed the volunteers, and interact with visitors.
