Last week, the U.S. Treasury quietly released numbers that should’ve been front-page news everywhere. They weren’t. Let me tell you what they said—and what it means for Texas.
The Federal Government Just Admitted It’s Mathematically Destroyed
The Treasury’s consolidated financial statements for fiscal year 2025 show $6.06 trillion in assets against $47.78 trillion in liabilities. That’s a negative net position of $41.72 trillion—and it got $2 trillion worse in a single year.
But that’s just what’s on the books. Add in the off-balance-sheet obligations—unfunded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare—and you get another $88.4 trillion. Total federal obligations: $136.2 trillion. That’s roughly five times the entire annual economic output of the United States.
The Government Accountability Office, for the twenty-ninth consecutive year, couldn’t certify that the federal government’s books were accurate. Twenty-nine years without a clean audit. The Department of Defense still can’t account for its own spending. This is the government that presumes to manage Texas’s future.
What this means: Texas doesn’t need permission to build a solvent future. We need the political will to stop being dragged down with a sinking ship.

Right on cue, the critics deploy their favorite fear tactic whenever independence comes up: “But what about Texas’s share of the national debt?” This myth has been weaponized to make Texans feel trapped.
Here’s what international law actually says: newly independent states have no automatic obligation to assume predecessor state debt. This isn’t theory—it’s been tested for two centuries. When Belgium declared independence from the Netherlands in 1830, they refused to pay Dutch debt. Result? Belgium retained zero obligation and became a thriving, creditworthy nation. When Ireland gained independence, Britain demanded they assume proportional Imperial debt. Ireland’s negotiators argued the debt resulted from Britain buying weapons to suppress the Irish. The final settlement? One pound.
Texas holds an even stronger position. Unlike territories that were net recipients of imperial spending, Texas has been a donor state for decades—paying more into the federal system than we receive back. We don’t owe them. They owe us.
What this means: The debt myth is psychological warfare designed to keep Texans in line. International precedent and law say otherwise.

Every independent nation on Earth delivers its own mail. Barbados does it. Slovenia does it. Iceland, with an economy smaller than Lubbock’s, does it. Texas—with a $2.9 trillion economy, 23 seaports, and three stock exchanges—cannot move a letter from Houston to Dallas without permission from Congress.
This week, Postmaster General David Steiner told lawmakers that USPS will run out of cash in less than twelve months. The agency lost $9 billion last year and another $9.5 billion the year before. Mail volume has collapsed. They’ve maxed out their $15 billion borrowing cap—a ceiling Congress hasn’t raised since 1992.
Congress built the agency. Congress imposed the mandates. Congress created the regulator. Congress capped the borrowing. And now Congress can’t agree on how to fix what Congress broke. Meanwhile, Texas leads the nation in exports, moves over $440 billion in goods annually, and has world-class logistics infrastructure. But we can’t deliver a letter across town.
What this means: This is what dependency looks like. A system Texas didn’t build, can’t fix, and isn’t allowed to replace—even as it collapses.

Taking the Declaration at Its Word
I spoke at the Abbeville Institute Conference in Montgomery last week on the topic of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. My message was simple: the United States is about to throw the most expensive birthday party in history for a breakup letter—and then call anyone who reads it out loud a radical.
They’ll celebrate the right of self-determination on the Fourth of July. And they’ll call it treason on the Fifth.
The real Declaration doesn’t end with “all men are created equal.” It ends with thirteen “free and independent States.” Plural. That word does a lot of heavy lifting that the proposition nation crowd would rather you not think about. The founders didn’t create a document about abstract equality—they signed a political act declaring thirteen distinct communities’ right to self-governance. That’s what we’re doing in Texas. Same principle. Same right.
What this means: The spirit of 1776 didn’t expire. And it applies to Texans today every bit as much as it applied to colonists then.
The numbers don’t lie. The federal system is collapsing under its own weight. The only question is whether Texas goes down with it—or builds something better. Join the Texans who’ve decided to build.

On Sunday, March 22, AlertsUSA subscribers were informed that the State Department had issued an updated Worldwide Caution urging Americans everywhere, and especially in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution amid heightened risks from groups supportive of Iran. It explicitly states that “U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted” and that “Groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and/or Americans throughout the world.”
This warning comes amid direct U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran launched in late February. These strikes targeted Iranian ballistic missiles, nuclear infrastructure, naval assets, and command nodes. Iran has responded in part by activating its longstanding proxy network—the so-called “Axis of Resistance.”
Epicenter of Violence: Iraq
The epicenter of current proxy violence is Iraq. Iran-backed Shia militias embedded in the Popular Mobilization Forces have launched hundreds of drone, rocket, and missile attacks against U.S. personnel and facilities since February 28. Multiple arms of Hezbollah, along with various front organizations, have repeatedly struck the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center at the airport, Erbil International Airport, U.S.-linked bases, hotels housing American personnel, and even U.S.-operated energy infrastructure in Basra and Kurdistan.
These militias, armed, trained, and directed by Iran’s IRGC Quds Force, have conducted over 180 attacks on U.S. positions in the region in prior cycles alone. The current surge mirrors that intensity.
Expanding Regional Threats
Beyond Iraq, the threat radiates outward. Hezbollah in Lebanon retains global reach through criminal networks and narco-trafficking from Mexico and Latin America into the U.S., Canada, and Europe. The group has conducted reconnaissance and assassination plots against Jewish and U.S. targets worldwide for decades.
Yemen’s Houthis, despite U.S. strikes in 2024-2025, retain missile and drone stockpiles supplied by Iran. They have previously demonstrated the ability to disrupt global shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb Strait. On Friday, a Houthi military spokesman stated that they have their “fingers on the trigger” as the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran widens, and they are ready for direct military intervention if more countries join the war against Iran or if the Red Sea is used to launch attacks.
The global dimension of this conflict stems from Iran’s hybrid playbook: covert operatives, criminal surrogates, sleeper cells, and cyber units. Pro-Iran hackers have already hit U.S. medical and defense contractors, water plants, and regional data centers since the war began and are likely probing for disruptive follow-on operations.
Ushering in the Hidden Imam
Readers would do well to remember who we are up against in this war.
There are two main sects in Islam: Sunni and Shia. Shia Muslims are primarily concentrated in Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and Bahrain, while Sunnis make up the majority of the remaining Muslim world.
Iran’s Shia regime, particularly the extremist “Twelver” variety that dominates the IRGC and hardline clergy, are gripped by a fanatical eschatology centered on the return of the so-called Hidden Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi, the twelfth and final successor to the prophet Muhammad who died in 632 AD. Adherents insist the Mahdi will only appear amid maximum global chaos and apocalyptic upheaval, when the world is drenched in the blood of infidels.
The true fanaticism lies in the interpretation of Twelver eschatology promoted by Iran’s regime: the belief that instead of waiting for divine gears to turn on their own, it is their sacred duty to actively hasten the Mahdi’s arrival by manufacturing the required hellscape through relentless jihad, martyrdom operations, proxy wars, and the deliberate provocation of Armageddon.
Thus, chaos is not a risk—it is the fuel. Martyrdom is not a tragedy—it is acceleration. This is not fringe mysticism within the IRGC power structure. It is the doctrinal engine that glorifies suicide attacks, human slaughter, and nuclear brinkmanship as holy prerequisites for the Mahdi’s return.
A Deadly and Persistent Threat
For American citizens, diplomats, businesses, and travelers, the risk is not abstract. Hotels, commercial aircraft, shipping lanes, energy facilities, and soft targets linked to the U.S. are now in play. The new Worldwide Caution is not alarmism. It is a clear recognition that Iran’s preferred method of war (proxy terrorism with global reach) has been activated in response to direct strikes on their homeland. The threat is persistent, adaptive, and calibrated to impose costs.

It’s an abrupt introduction of the just plain weird. It’s not gradual, either. One generation’s music, culture, slang, and manner isn’t shading into the next generation’s as has always been the case until now. Instead, smart phone “culture” has acted like an old-school IBM mainframe that sends out the same code to every green-text-on-black-screen dummy terminal. The dummy terminals are Gen Z young people. No, of course not all, and most certainly not your children (so stop yourself from leaving that comment that I’ll delete). But yes, identifiably widespread among that specific generation.

These “kids” don’t have personalities. I mean this plainly without hyperbole. They do not have distinct personalities the way people used to. They all sound the same because they are the same. They’re running entirely on programming that substitutes its terminology, phrases, and body movements for what used to be an individuated human personality.
