Ripped from the Headlines

As you know, I attempt to keep abreast of the Left media so that I can report things here, and also to help those on the Right understand things that might require some translation. Even though I’ve moved more Right (or the Left has moved more left, whatever), I intend to continue doing this. It is important to me to not have an echo chamber, and to listen to news from a variety of sources. This leads me to today’s article.

Kamala Harris Swears In Senate Members from Times of India

You’re welcome to read the article. It’s a confusing bit of media. The heading would lead you to believe that the article is talking about Harris swearing in the new Senate members. It really has little to do with that. Instead, they talk about how J. D. Vance was laughing during the swearing in (the video just repeats itself a few times btw), and a video went viral of him doing so. It’s reported like this is a Big Deal. It’s not. He was smiling through the entire thing, pleased as punch to see so many of his friends being sworn in. As he should. He wasn’t laughing. I’ve watched the thing.

One of the quotes from the article gives you a feel for what they’re aiming for (and missing, imo, but that’s another story): “Many of the Republicans Kamala Harris swore in today could not pronounce her name, the Time Magazine headlined its article…” They later suggest that those Republicans could pronounce her name but chose not to. The bottom line is, they’re more worried about the name than the people being sworn in. I will tell you, I only remember how to pronounce her name because Kamala rhymes with mommala, which was part of a SNL skit, I believe. I have to say it over in my mind to remind myself! It’s an unusual name. Now, should they have made the attempt? Yes. It’s a statement of respect, and while I don’t expect any of them to respect her, they should respect the office, and they should treat her as if they respect her for ceremonial things like this. That they didn’t says stuff to me, but it’s still pretty minor.

The article also talks about how the “smiling people” coming to her to be sworn in were her bitter enemies only weeks ago, as if this is two-faced in some way. Why would they not be smiling? They won. We all won. They said she was a threat to the American way of life, and I believe that she was, and may continue to be if she stays in politics. They also make some claims about the claims made by Republicans about Harris, claims of “her wanting to ban Christmas from the calendar” and “bringing dog meat to immigrants’ stoves.” It’s asinine and silly. The only part they sort of got right was the claim that she tried to skew the election results by flooding the polls with illegal immigrants. I’m still struggling to understand who in their right mind would vote against a law that protects our voting places.

It ends with the author attempting to help Harris feel better by commenting that outgoing VP’s just have to suck it up and deal with the horrid people coming after them because it’s part of the job, distasteful as it is. Mind boggling.

What has struck me as more meaningful, though, is the Left’s utter meltdown over DOGE. While I haven’t seen any news articles about it, I’m seeing both my own acquaintances and people on social media aps having fits because DOGE, in cleaning out the pork from Washington, will hit the Right as well as the Left. They don’t seem to understand that if you want to crack down on overspending, that means ALL overspending, not just the other side’s. The Left is confused and even a bit upset over the whole thing, because they cannot understand why anyone would vote for something that goes against their own people.

More and more, I understand that the Left really has no concept of “doing what’s right, even when it hurts.” It really does explain so much. It explains the current mess in government. It explains kids today. It explains schools. It explains a lot of foreign “diplomacy” that’s ongoing. The Left, and to a high degree those folks under 30 years of age regardless of political belief, seem to believe in “gentle parenting” at all levels. They don’t understand that there comes a time when a spanking of your kid could save them from running in front of a car. The entire thing is just mind boggling.

TikTok and Facebook seem to be awash with people who are harping on about how stupid Republicans are to vote in something that’s going to dismantle large parts of their own government. They can’t seem to understand that the parts being dismantled are all fat, bad for us, bad for the country. Republicans are simply adult enough to look at it and go, “This is going to hurt, getting this fat removed, but it’s the right thing to do going forward. Let’s get it over with.”

I’ll close with my own insight on Speaker Mike Johnson’s commentary on the whole Sarah McBride/bathroom thing in Congress. When asked just after he was confirmed, Johnson basically said he wasn’t going to talk about it, that the House was going to continue to work together as a united group, and that everyone would be treated with the same respect. Later, when pressed on his personal beliefs, he stated that he personally believes that a man is a man, and a woman is a woman, but that the “real world” is a lot more complicated than that and regardless of personal beliefs, they’re all just going to have to get along with one another.

I thought his statements were very politically savvy, but also personally comfortable for me. He’s worried about Congresspeople… not whether someone’s peeing in the ladies’ bathrooms. The bottom line is, McBride is very feminine, would easily pass (very bluntly, in a lineup I’d choose McBride as female over Pelosi, any day). She’s interested in being female, and has gone to great lengths to look, act, and BE as female as possible. She’s made it clear that she’s not interested in spending a lot of time on trans stuff, but that she was elected by folks on her platform, and that’s what she’s going to be working on. Good on her. I don’t really care where she pees, and frankly, I don’t think any of the Congress critters care, either. It was a silly motion, meant to distract from other things.

As I write this, I just found out that Congress did confirm Trump’s election. So it’s official.

Everything you state is something I have noticed for quite some time now.

Basically, the folks on the left are more emotion/feelings based than those on the right. Articles like the one you cite are proof of it. It is all about “disrespecting Kamala” and “gloating” and knocking anyone who is not of a similar mindset.

And, that shows up with their reluctance to “do what is right, even if it hurts in the short term.” That is why they push for things like government funded healthcare (nice initially, a fiscal and administrative nightmare in the long run.) Open borders (Ohhh… we have to help these poor people seeking a better life…) and pretty much everything the left pushes for.

Social media reinforces that attitude. Simple headlines and platitudes become a substitute for thinking all too often. And, the folks on the left seem to be perfectly OK with a social media platform censoring… errr…. I mean fact checking posts. Like some drone sitting in front of a screen has somehow gained omniscience and can, with 100% certainty, determine facts from fiction.

Because it is easy, the left chooses that path.
