yesterday, i was eating breakfast in a restaurant. the table next to me had a (i’m guessing) 3-year-old boy who started to have a melt down. i was bracing for a long, miserable dining experience as “my kid is expressing his inner air raid siren, you all need to deal with it!” certainly seems to have become the core parenting praxis of late. instead, the father simply stood up, collected his son, then took him outside. this alone was lovely and comment-worthy (a sad statement about the current state of affairs), but the rest just kept getting better. the dad came back. alone. mom (who was with the other boy child) said, “where’s billy?” (i’m making up this name) dad: “in the car.” mom: oh, ok. other son (perhaps 5) nodded sagely as if he too had once learned this lesson…any gen X remembers this. you act up in a restaurant? no one is negotiating with terrorists. car. right now. no questions. no reprieve. get it together or go sit by yourself until you can…it still works. turns out nothing has changed except parental will to be parents instead of “appeasing buddies” and society’s will to let them.

ATLANTA, GA — Locals have begun questioning the authenticity of purported Mexican restaurant “El Bandido” as ICE has yet to raid the restaurant a single time. With nearby restaurants being hit by ICE on a near-daily basis, concerns about El Bandido’s genuineness have risen as no waiter, cook, or busboy has been taken into custody. “It’s a bad look,” said former patron Dan Billings. “How do you claim to serve authentic Mexican cuisine and your kitchen door hasn’t even been broken down by ICE? It just doesn’t add up. I’m taking my business over to Julio’s, they’re getting raided all the time. Just last week, ICE hit ’em right when I was getting my enchiladas. That’s how you know it’s good.” The owner of El Bandido has defended his restaurant, adamantly maintaining its authenticity. “I’m sure ICE will be here any day, I’ve got so many illegals in the back — just give us time!” stated Mr. Javier Lopez. “Please, you’ve got to believe me, there’s not one green card holder back there. Following the passing of President Donald Trump’s historic “Big Beautiful Bill” to set the government’s spending budget, Planned Parenthood warned that the massive funding cut would result in the birth of thousands of babies. The abortion provider issues a solemn public statement on Friday, letting Americans across the country know that the crippling reduction in government funding would likely cause a chain reaction that would lead to thousands upon thousand of healthy, adorable babies being born into the world. “It’s important to let everyone know what’s going to come from this,” said Planned Parenthood spokesperson Jeannie Raye. “We were hoping to avoid this outcome, but we regret to inform the American people that this cut in funding due to Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ will, in all likelihood, result in large numbers of babies being born instead of murdered. It’s a horrifying realization for all of us here.” Inside sources reported that Planned Parenthood leaders were worried that America would be unprepared for the onslaught of beautiful infants that would be produced in the wake of the spending bill’s passing. “It is, indeed, a sad day,” one source said. “We’d love to keep dismembering babies in their mothers’ wombs, but without our federal funding, we’re afraid that these lovable little human beings will instead be born alive.
