Another week. What is your favorite childhood food? That dish that takes you back to a happy childhood memory.
Politics
The New York Times, a “newspaper” and “trusted media source” was out there downplaying the second assignation attempt on Trump.
They do such a good job of lying. Kamala should take lessons from them. They used air quotes to imply that the assignation attempt wasn’t a real thing.
Over on X, the number of people that claim that there was no assignation attempt because no shot was fired is batshit crazy.
I do love that Florida has decided to keep the investigation local and to hold on to their prisoner.
All roads lead to Trump
So see if you can follow this logic. A woman died because of a botched abortion, in Georgia.
At nine weeks, she left Georgia to go to North Caroline. There she went to an abortion clinic, intending on getting a surgical procedure. Instead, they gave her abortion pills.
After taking the pills, she became ill. She went to the local Georgia hospital. There, it took the hospital over 17 hours to get her into surgery to correct the botched abortion.
The young lady died.
According to the left, Trump is directly responsible for her death.
It goes something like this.
Republican Presidents have been installing “extreme right-wing” Supreme Court Justices.
Trump, nominated three who were confirmed.
The six extreme right-wing justices decided to follow the Constitution instead of letting bad law stand. See the —Dred Scott v. Sandford, 60 US 393 (Supreme Court 1857).
Some states passed partial abortion bans. All the states with abortion bans have exemptions. Not all the exemptions are well-thought-out.
Georgia has such a law, which is Constitutional under —Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, 142 S. Ct. 2228 (2022).
This woman decided to kill her unborn child.
She left the state to do so.
The abortion clinic and she decided on a chemical abortion.
She didn’t seek medical assistance until very late.
The hospital staff were concerned they might violate Georgia law.
The hospital staff waited until the lawyers said it was “OK” to proceed. Or the hospital said they didn’t give a damn, they were going to operate. About 17 hours.
And it is Trumps fault.
If only that young woman could have gone to a local abortion clinic that might have done something different, or could have left her to die. See: —Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer
You can’t make this sort of crazy up. You have to see it and believe.
Food
The children are off at University. They seem to be doing well and having fun.
The upside is that we are no longer catering to their tastes. Oh my goodness, the food quality has gone up while our food budget has gone down.
For my wife, the reason is always food. “Food is love. Love is food.” That is her motive.
It comes from being put on abusive diets as a child. Then her mother or grandmother would show her love by feeding her.
This means that my wife lives to feed her children and then us. But the children always come first.
Child B doesn’t like onions or mushrooms. For the last 12 years, onions had to be hidden in food or left out. Mushrooms could be on the side, but don’t you dare cook with them.
Child A doesn’t eat pork. Don’t ask why. That means that for the last 12 years, we didn’t have pork for a dinner unless there was a different, pork free, dish for him.
Yesterday’s pasta sauce had mushrooms and onions and pork and all sorts of flavor exploding in the mouth.
Tonight was ham with Mom’s cherry sauce/glaze. Darn near perfect.
And, I am enjoying getting back in the kitchen and making things.
Exercise
My lazy ass is just that lazy. The number of times that I put of physical labor waiting for one of the kids to be available is very high. No kids? I have to do it.
I’m back to splitting wood. Weed wacking and all the other lawn care things. It is on me to pick up the slack.
Nerd Stuff
Is it two steps forward, one step back? Or one step forward, two steps back?
I had this really great ansible playbook that did almost everything I wanted it to do. Except that it was over 400 lines long, not counting included tasks. And it was a mess.
So I started refactoring. The new playbook is “only” 280 lines long, but it is much cleaner.
So why bother with ansible? There is a simple reason, I use it to take notes.
Donald Knuth wrote The Art of Computer Programming. He was a firm believer in self documenting code. And not like Cobol and Pascal. He was interested in actual self documenting code. Write English prose, run it through a processor, end up with computer executable code.
And he did all of this because it cost too much to have math formulas typeset. Therefore, he wrote TeX and Metafont. He is the reason you have cheap printers. He started the path to free fonts and beautiful typeset documents. TeX is still the gold standard for typesetting.
I never liked WEB as a programming language. The concept of self documenting code? That is something I love.
For years this meant that I wrote shell scripts or Perl programs to implement what I was doing by hand. Do this command at the command line, copy it into a document file as a script. Things get better.
So I’ve taken to using Ansible as my documenting system administration documenting language. It documents everything I do to a system, making it easy to repeat a step or to change a system.

If Trump had called out Harris on her “Trump abortion ban” claims during the debate, it would have been a major win. Just imagine Trump saying:
“I will cede my time back to VP Harris so that she can explain how I am in any way responsible for a State passing a State law. I am sure she can use her experience as a lawyer and attorney general to explain how it is my fault States passed these laws.”
And when she struggled to even express it half as eloquently as you did, everyone would realize it is just trashing her opponent.
Trump is a better leader, but he’s not a good debater. Now, Vance… He’s good at debate. I would pay good money to see he and Ben Shapiro tackle different sides of a topic (any topic really). It would be a REAL debate. In any case, there were any number of places Trump could have gotten zingers on her, but with things as they were, he played it safe and it was probably the better move. *sigh*
Favorite food growing up was Dad’s spaghetti with meat sauce. A couple jars of Prego or Ragu (I don’t remember which one) heavily doctored with spices, garlic and cooked/spiced ground beef. Sauce sat on the burner for hours and was amazingly delicious.
I use Newman’s Own that is heavily doctored up with spices, garlic, canned tomatoes, tomato paste and cooked/spiced ground meat. The meat tends to depend on what I have in the freezer, though it’s usually ground pork or turkey, sometimes chicken or beef.
