For all the debate in recent years about how mass unchecked illegal immigration threatens election integrity, there’s one glaring apparent contradiction in American law that almost no one is talking about – and it might be enabling noncitizens to vote. To become a U.S. citizen – and therefore gain the right to vote in federal elections – noncitizens must pass a naturalization test that measures both English language proficiency and knowledge of U.S. history and government. English proficiency is determined by the ability to “read, write, speak, and understand English,” with applicants required to read one sentence, write one sentence, and respond meaningfully to questions in English…that requirement is in apparent conflict with Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act, which mandates translated voting materials—ballots, instructions, and notices—in counties where a significant number of voting-age citizens belong to a single language minority group and have limited English proficiency…The Voting Rights Act, originally passed in 1965 and amended over the years, was critical in ending racial discrimination at the polls and expanding access to the ballot box. But with illegal immigration now a national crisis, there’s legitimate reason for concern that progressive activists and politicians are exploiting Section 203 to enable noncitizen voting – especially in left-leaning states and cities with lax enforcement of election laws to begin with…The Founders envisioned a republic where free citizens deliberated in a shared public language. Judge Danielle Jo Forrest, an appointee of Donald Trump, authored the unanimous opinion holding the California law is “facially unconstitutional because the plain text of the Second Amendment protects the possession of multiple firearms and protects against meaningful constraints on the acquisition of firearms through purchase.” That last bit is particularly interesting, because it calls into question other California gun laws, including attempts by municipalities and counties to zone gun stores out of existence, as well as the state’s prohibition on gun shows on state property.

Within minutes of Saturday night’s successful U.S. strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the jihad wing of the U.S. Democrat Party threw a public wing ding, threatened to impeach the president, and one of them was given a star turn on Tehran TV…Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Mogadishu) issued a statement claiming that the strikes “mark a dangerous and reckless escalation of an already volatile conflict in the Middle East.” She added, “Military strikes will not bring peace. They will only provoke more violence, destabilize the region, and endanger U.S. troops and civilians.” Furthermore, she claimed that no effort at diplomacy had been taken, saying, “We’ve seen what happens when diplomacy is sidelined in favor of bombs.” She apparently doesn’t remember that the mullahs left the negotiating table in Europe…The mission was flawlessly carried off because nobody leaked the details, whispered to a reporter, or dropped a dime to a mullah. But Omar was joined by Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib (D-Gaza), who demanded to know why they were not told the details of the mission and allowed to give their consent.
We’re sure the lawfare crowd will try to tie up Trump in the courts over this issue. The Authorized Use of Military Force doesn’t include Iran, according to Just Security, but there is room under the Constitution in which the president may use force “to protect an important national interest.”
